My Safe Florida Home Grant: Impact Windows & Doors in Sarasota

Up to $10,000 Toward Hurricane-Rated Windows and Doors for Your Home

The My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) program is a state grant run by the Florida Department of Financial Services. It helps homeowners pay for upgrades that make their homes stronger against hurricanes, and impact-rated windows and doors are among the most common upgrades it covers.

How Much Can You Get?

The program pays up to $10,000 per home toward eligible improvements. How it pays depends on your household income:

• Low-income homeowners (at or below 80% of the area median income) can receive up to $10,000 with no matching funds required.
• Moderate-income homeowners receive a matching grant: the state pays $2 for every $1 you contribute. For example, on a $15,000 project you pay $5,000 and the grant covers $10,000.

This is a grant, not a loan, but most homeowners pay the contractor first and are reimbursed after the final inspection. Grants are awarded as funding allows, and homeowners 60 and older are given priority within each income group.

Who Qualifies?

To receive a grant, your home generally must be:

• A site-built, single-family home (detached or townhouse) that you own and live in
• Your primary residence with a Florida homestead exemption
• Permitted for construction before January 1, 2008
• Insured for $700,000 or less (low-income homeowners are exempt from this limit)
• Inspected through the program’s free wind mitigation inspection first

Mobile and manufactured homes, rentals, second homes, and most condos are not eligible for this program. Rules and funding change, so always confirm your eligibility at MySafeFLHome.com.

What Window & Door Upgrades Are Covered?

The grant covers “opening protection,” meaning upgrades that keep wind and water from getting in through your home’s openings. This can include:

• Impact-rated windows
• Impact-rated entry doors and sliding glass doors
• Impact-rated French doors
• Garage door reinforcement or replacement

Only the openings listed as recommended in your MSFH inspection report qualify. That’s why we always start by reviewing your report with you, so your estimate matches exactly what the program will fund.

How the Process Works

1. Create an account at MySafeFLHome.com and request your free wind mitigation inspection.
2. Get your inspection report. A state-approved inspector will visit your home and list recommended improvements.
3. Apply for the grant through your MSFH account and upload the required documents.
4. Get an estimate from HB Windows. Bring your report and we’ll quote the windows and doors it recommends.
5. Wait for approval before any work begins. Work started before approval won’t be reimbursed.
6. We install your windows and doors, with permits handled by our licensed team.
7. Request your final inspection, then submit your paperwork for reimbursement.
